Amazon has announced that almost 20,000 of their US workers have tested positive for Coronavirus. This follows concerns that Amazon’s delivery and warehouse workers may be at greater risk from the virus than most in society.
The internet giant has reported 19,816 positive cases among its 1.37 million US workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon said that it will not release any information in respect of Coronavirus and their UK operations; Amazon currently operates over 50 UK sites and hires over 40,000 employees.
Coronavirus is taking its toll on Amazon’s US business. The company has been battling the virus warehouses, with at least nine warehouses in the US reporting outbreaks.
The outbreaks have put Amazon under the microscope in terms of COVID-secure working within their business. Amazon introduced a strict social distancing policy and mass testing across all sites worldwide.
