Detectives from the metropolitan police are assessing a recent video interview between Priti Patel and the Board of Deputies of British Jews to investigate if the Home Secretary has broken the law.

Journalist Alex Tiffin was made aware that the case being passed up to Detectives of the metropolitan police for assessment. The interview was reported due to the Home Secretaries disturbing anti-traveller comments; Many believe Patel used the interview to amplify racial hatred towards traveller communities, to justify new laws she has proposed.
The Home Secretaries comments may have also committed a Contempt of Court offence; as the ‘murdered police officer’ she made reference to was PC Andrew Harper, who was killed by three men in 2019.
Andrew Harper’s killers were sentenced on the 31st July, however, by the time of Priti Patel commented on the case all three criminals had launched appeals. If the courts just the case as being ‘live’ when she commented on the case in public, she will have broken the law by commenting on an active case; Something she alludes to in the video.
In the interview, The Board of Deputies stated their support for the Gypsy Roma Traveller communities which stems from their shared experiences of persecution in World War Two. Traveller communities were raised by the Board due to concern about the fairness of the Home Secretaries proposed anti-traveller laws.
Priti Patel’s ignorance of the law in her quest to enforce order is leading her down a dangerous path; Gaslighting groups of people based on race to create and enforce new laws has never ended well.
