Oxford West and Abingdon MP Moran has since deleted the tweet however, Liberal’s are demanding apology.
Moran parodied the infamous Star Wars character ‘Jar Jar’ Binks. The character’s defining feature was its lack of intelligence, his broken Caribbean accent.
The deleted tweet was part of a larger conversation on the Jar Jar character. Liberal Democrat supporters are now calling on Moran to apologise.
The ‘Jar Jar’ character faced scrutiny from the Star Wars fandom over its poor writing and use of racist tropes. Critics lambasted the character’s child-like behaviour, and the use of racist stereotype’s in the characters Caribbean accent. The reaction led actor, Ahmed Best to consider suicide.
