Northumbria University has announced that 770 students have tested positive for COVID-19 on campus. A spokesperson for the university has said that the majority of those testes were asymptomatic.
The Newcastle-upon-tyne based establishment said 78 students were ‘displaying symptoms’; All who tested positive are now self-isolating. The University is advising everyone they have been in contact with to get tested.
In a statement, the University says they are supporting those affected with food, laundry, cleaning and other essential items. The statement said:
“Welfare support including 24/7 online mental health support and one-to-one support from our wellbeing teams.
“Working together with our student’s union, the City Council and other partners.”
