R number s topping off - 1.21 - 1.41

Voice Britannia has received the most up to date independent COVID-19 modelling data, looking at the UK’s ‘R Number’. The last week has seen a huge increase in new Coronavirus cases in the UK, and now, it looks like the R number is catching up with the rise in cases.

The most recent R number estimates by the CMMID (Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases), which are created using historical data from Government, show that as of the 28th August, the UK’s R number was sitting at 1.06; hitting as high as 1.47!

In the last week, a dramatic rise in new cases has been observed in the UK with 1406 new cases reported yesterday. Equally as worrying, Across the channel, France has seen more than a 20% rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the last week.

With the UK lagging a few weeks behind mainland Europe in terms of Coronavirus cases, and people still being allowed to travel to and from the European mainland and beyond; it is difficult to see how this second COVID-19 wave can be stopped.

A Second national lockdown could be loomig on the horizon!
