Earlier today, President Donald J. Trump announced that he would be taking steps to withdraw Federal funding and support for testing of COVID-19 in the US.
Trump’s team described the move as an attempt to ‘broaden community testing’ of Coronavirus onto “public-private partnerships” such as pharmacies.
News of President Trump’s plan to scale back on COVID-19 comes as no surprise. At one of Trump’s recent campaign rallies the President told his energetic followers the reason Coronavirus cases in the US are so high, is because they are testing more than any other country. Trump’s solution was to test fewer people, a plan he reiterated on his Twitter account yesterday.
Team Trump is attempting to play this move off as involving communities in the USA’S Coronavirus testing program. However, it is hard to see how this move to cut testing is unrelated to his previous statements; which overtly blamed testing for Coronavirus with the high amounts of people reported as having the virus.
